Some Skeletons in Suits
Here’s a time lapse video of the first page from a new comic I’ve been working on. Much like the comics in Trash Trophies, I just started drawing and figured out a story as I went along. It’s a very fun way to work, and I’m loving how this one is shaping up.
Trash Trophies x Zine-o-matic
The fine folks of Zine-o-matic will be distributing a comic zine of mine, yet again! It’s so cool knowing 125 strangers will receive Trash Trophies in the mail.
This means I have very few copies left, so if you still haven’t snagged your own, let me know if you want one sent your way or order through Gumroad.
Here’s a big stack ready to be handed off for distribution, alongside the only trophy I’ve ever won (Most Spirited Bowler, 1999).
Anarchy Pancakes
Anarchy Pancakes is out now, a card game that contains some of my silly illustrations (as seen above), as well as art from the very talented Chuck BB (who you must follow on Instagram) and Matt Inman.
These guys above are some of my personal favorites, and I can’t believe they actually made it into the game (particularly the tooth with a baby tooth).
Of course, several of my concepts did not make it to the final game, and I thought it might be fun to share a handful of the rejects:
Honestly, I get it. Nobody would want any of these as a pancake topping.
Things I’ve Been Enjoying Recently
Big fan of Yot Club’s latest album amateur observer.
I devoured Joe Death and the Graven Image - a graphic novel with such an unique visual style (equal parts Hellboy and Popeye), I found myself studying each panel with awe. Brace yourself for some dense lore and beautiful art.
George Saunders did it again. His latest short story for the New Yorker, Thursday, really hit all my buttons.
Why hadn’t I seen Keeper of the Flame before?! Feels like it should be a classic! Kind of like Citizen Kane but a murder mystery, with a few fascist conspiracies thrown in for good measure. Is that a spoiler? Can you spoil a movie from 1942?
The season one finale of Unicorn: Warriors Eternal just aired, and I can’t believe an animated show this unique and strange exists today. Fleischer-style character designs, with steampunk / LOTR / cosmic-style adventures, and jaw-dropping hand-drawn art. Good for you, Genndy.
That’s all for now. I think you’re great!
