I had a great time tabling at the first-ever Oceanside Zine Fair last weekend! Huge thanks to the Hill Street Country Club and Lunchtime Print House for having me.
Here I am looking very sleepy (I was!) in a nondescript corner (there was art hanging everywhere else, I swear!)
I wish I had more time to check out every vendor, but the ones I met / traded zines with filled me up with inspiration. Some favorites include:
the fishy comics of Jo Blowfish / Elana Finkelstein
the amount of cool art made by Caliboca blows my mind - everything from pottery to painting, tattoos, photography, and beyond.
some rad spooky comics by Max Flower of Rat Brain Zines!
lovely personal photo zine and “WTFYW” collab by littlewaterhorse
an info-packed zine about surviving burnout by Ndeye Oumou Sylla of zines4queers
great hand-bound photo books by Brookes Reeder of Lunchtime Print House
Ran into Anny of Malcriada Media who I met at the Vegas zine fest! I love that our brief chat about the uniqueness of newsprint inspired her to use it for their awesome zine about roller skate culture in Vegas.
Spooky Sticker Bundle
I decided to bundle all the spooky stickers I’ve made along with a bonus mini horror zine and sell them on my Gumroad! Behold:
And if you want a sneaky peeky of the mini zine, enjoy these photos I may or may not have felt weird about snapping in an actual Target store:

Some things I’ve been enjoying recently that aren’t zines:
Speaking of spooky: I’ve been seeking out some of the Hammer horror films I haven’t seen. So far the wildest has been The Devil Rides Out, which takes some surprisingly big swings and makes me wish we got a series with Christopher Lee as the Duc de Richleau, fighting the occult and saving the souls of good christian brits.
The writers’ strike is over, and as always, ya gotta go to Chester’s newsletter to read all about it.
I was so inspired by the virtually-wordless graphic novel Grosz that it heavily influenced the 15 seconds of animation I completed for Our Frasier Remake: a crowdsourced, collaborative art project where Frasier fans are remaking an episode one frame at a time. What a sentence!
The year is winding down (!) and my giant playlist of every new (to me) song I’ve enjoyed in 2023 is now over 10 hours long. Some stand-outs: the new Kid Bloom album is a hot jam, as well as the latest from Yot Club. Also recently been grooving on Sure Sure.
While I was in Oceanside over the weekend I had the best bagel sandwich I’ve encountered on the west coast. I love you, Ryes and Grind. You will be a priority whenever next I find myself in O’side.
That’s it - I think you’re great.
