Above is another rejected concept from work: busy bugs! I like combining cartoony weirdos with photo backgrounds (like the back cover of the first Sorry Thank You.)
Speaking of Sorry Thank You, I’m working on the next one, with a comic that involves candlesticks - and here are too many of them. Over the course of several weeks I would dip in and out of this comic and add a few more candlesticks to this panel - a creative exercise that fell somewhere between fun and maddening.
The next Sorry Thank You will also have a short comic featuring these two above: frog and fly, dude and guy. Frog is a dude. Fly is a guy. This is another one that came to me via mindless doodling that ended up becoming a full comic. Thank you, doodles.
We are officially in the spooky season, so here’s a spooky a close up on a Dracula face that will appear in the next Sorry Thank You. And here are a handful of spooky single panel comics I did for work last year, just for spooky funsies.
Above is from a few years back when I did a series of cartoons with anagrams of famous actors who portrayed Dracula. You can check them all out here.
Other things:
I really enjoyed this animated short from Gobelins
Also enjoyed this great comic by Sam D'Orazio
Michael DeForge is one of my favorite cartoonists working today, and he’s been releasing a weekly comic called Worlds Tour that’s like an intergalactic / metaphysical take on Josie and the Pussycats kind of? It’s just great.
You should really subscribe to Marina’s newsletter, delivering nice internet and superb writing to your inbox. Her work is hilarious, thoughtful, often heartbreaking, always human. In short: she good!
Have a lovely spooky season. You are great.
