Squishy Spookies
Some squishy and spooky little faces, drawn on paper with marker, pen, and a white charcoal pencil recently gifted to me. A fun way to doodle!
Nervous Magician
Here’s a magician experiencing varying degrees of success and confidence. I believe in him! I’m thinking of making a comic about him, but first I gotta finish up Sorry Thank You vol. 3. Speaking of which…
Sorry Thank You Update
Here’s a page of rough concept / character art for another comic that will appear in vol. 3 - I’m thinking it will stay in this silhouette-y style. Until then, and as always, the first two volumes are available on my Gumroad shop.
Comics O’Clock
Very honored to be invited to read some of my comics aloud (while they are projected on a screen above me) at Comics O’Clock, a live show hosted by Mikey Heller at Heavy Manners Library. The show is on Friday May 24th at 7pm. Come say hi if you’re in LA!
Webby Win!
I loved animating the first two episodes of Joey Clift’s web series Gone Native, which is now officially a Webby winner! The second episode involved way more character animation and lip syncing than I’d ever attempted before in Flash, and I love how it came out. Huge thanks to native artist Marie Bower for designed the (intentionally offensive) mascot that appears throughout.
Things I’ve Been Enjoying
Stop what you’re doing and watch Alex Edelman’s special Just For Us. A very funny and very Jewish standup / storytelling show produced by Mike Birbiglia. I got to see it live last year when he was doing the show in LA, and have been raving about it ever since.
I devoured the audiobook version of Pictures at a Revolution - a classic for a reason! I then immediately dove into Mark Harris’ other book about an interesting time in cinema history: Five Came Back.
I’m finally reading the beloved graphic novel Paper Girls - again, a classic for a reason. Love the perfect combo of Cliff Chiang’s art and Matt Wilson’s colors.
Holy crap. I cannot believe how much I love X-Men 97. And I’m not alone! Still reeling from Magneto’s monologue in episode 2.
Enjoying the new album by Speelburg, particularly the song New Earth.
The song Forevereverever by Babe and the Crystals almost sounds like a lost Hedwig track, which y’all know is high praise in my book.
I guess I’ll also put “The Grand Canyon” as a thing I’ve been enjoying? Because I went for the first time, and it’s true: I enjoyed!
That’s all for now. I think you’re great!
